Elementary / Middle School Activities

Among the many after school activities offered are Yearbook, Honors Choir, Literature Clubs, Scholars for Success, Homework Club, Running Club, Student Council, Gymnastics, the Web Team, and Math Club.  Many mentors and volunteers are also available to assist individual and groups of students as part of the strong partnership we have with the military community.  Middle School students participate community service projects such as Mission Kinder and volunteering at sites around the base.  These projects are part of our personal challenge program.

High School Activities

Future Educators of America (FEA)
Our mission is to provide middle and high school students with opportunities to explore teaching as a career option; help students gain a realistic understanding of the nature of education and the role of the teacher; and to coordinate information about teaching as a profession, employment opportunities, financial assistance options, and educational issues such as professional mobility, diversity, job security, and other matters.
Rationale: The good health of our nation’s schools depends on bringing into classrooms as new teachers the brightest and best among today’s students.  Teaching needs to be viewed as a promising career option.  Particularly needed in the future will be teachers from diverse backgrounds to match and be sensitive to the increasing diversity in our classrooms.
Phi Delta Kappa has decided to act as a catalyst to develop a national FEA network that, it is hoped, will draw together the individual initiatives into a cohesive nationwide program of support for the development of new teachers.

Homework Club
The Homework Club at Incirlik American High School was developed to assist students who are having difficulty remembering, completing and turning in their homework. The club focuses on improving these skills by providing:
  1. A quiet, supervised environment to complete homework.
  2. A qualified teacher to give assistance with work as needed.
  3. A system for recording and tracking assignments.
The club’s success depends on the combined work with students, teachers, sponsors, and parents. Students need to bring their assignment books (given out 1st day). It is student’s responsibility to write the assignments daily and have teachers initiate the given homework in the book. The Homework Club sponsor makes sure that teachers have initiated the assignments and makes notes of what assignments still need to be completed. The sponsor arranges a folder for each student where the completed assignments are kept. The folders are kept in the sponsor’s room. Student takes out the assignments in the morning and turns them in daily. Parents’ support of the program is essential to its success. Parents need to check the assignment books for work that needs to be completed, check work for accuracy and initiate daily.
Homework Club meets twice a week between 2:50 p.m.- 4:25 p.m. We try to create a homelike, and comfortable environment for students. Students may bring a drink and\or snack to have during Homework Club. For further assistance, please contact the school at 6-6330 or 6-6484.

Intercultural Club
Incirlik American High School sponsor a program called Intercultural Club every Wednesday after school. This club is designed to familiarize the Incirlik American High School students with the Turkish Culture. It also helps the students adjust themselves to the country they temporarily live in. This club arranges cooking classes, Turkish handwork, discussion about Turkish people, customs, costumes, and the tours to the different sites of Adana and Turkey. Participants of this club are expected to show common courtesy to the Turkish people and follow the Turkish customs during the trips. The parents of the club members are also invited to attend our activities and also chaperone the trips.

Yearbook Club
Incirlik American High School sponsor a yearbook club. This club is for the purpose of having students go through the process of compiling the information and photos to create the school yearbook.

Model United Nations
Is an extracurricular club that trains young student diplomats to participate in Model United Nations conferences.  Its mission is to provide students with the highest quality, most professionally run simulation of the United Nations. Students are assigned a country which they research and then role play that country as ambassadors  This year our club competed in two of these simulations, one Istanbul and the another in Ankara.  Our outstanding young diplomats received accolades for their ability to expertly represent the interests of their assigned countries.

Model United State Senate
Is an extracurricular club whose goal is to train students to participate in role playing activities that simulate the American legislative process.  Students are assigned to research issues and protray US Senators who represent specific points of view from the political spectrum.  Through practice and competitions, the students learn and experience in depth all facets of the legislative process. Our students enthusiastically prepare for participating each year in the European MUSS meet which always proves to be a once in a lifetime experience.

NHS/NJHS
The National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). One of the objectives of the society is for its participants to take a more active role in nurturing leadership qualities in every student.

Student Council
Membership includes a representative from each grade level including student body officers.  The SC provides a voice for student input from across the student body and acts as vehicle for positive involvement and change within the school and community.  Participants have the responsibility to be positive role models as they learn and practice the democratic process.  It is the goal of the program to allow developing leaders to reach their full potential in the role of student leadership.  The more that the SC leadership encourages participation from all students, the more effective the role of the council will be impacting positive action within the school.

Junior Science and Humanities Symposium
This program invites high school students to conduct an original research investigation in the sciences, engineering, or mathematics, and to participate in a regional symposium sponsored by universities or other academic institutions. This year IHS will be enthusiastically represented by ten students whose projects and research efforts have met the qualifications for participation.

Creative Connections
This is a six-day high school advanced visual and performing arts activity for 154 students who are talented and interested in the arts. The basic objective of this activity is to provide the students with activities that provide them with the opportunity to expand and improve on their talents beyond what is viable in their local schools.  IHS is very excited and proud to have three students accepted from a large pool of applicants for this year's participation!
